Physical Distancing Tips

With many provinces making plans and setting dates for re-opening, it’s important to know how to protect yourself while out in public. Practicing physical distancing is one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Physical Distancing

Physical distancing (also referred to as social distancing) minimizes the physical contact we have with others. This means maintaining at least 2 meters or 6 feet between people and limiting the number of times you leave home. When you do go out in public, here are some tips to help you stay safe.

Elevators & Public Transportation

Maintain as much distance as possible – if there are more than 3 people in the elevator wait for the next one or take the stairs. If you need to cough or sneeze while riding in a confined space, cover it with a tissue or your elbow. Do not touch your face after pushing buttons and wash or sanitize your hands when you get out.

Grocery Shopping

Plan ahead – have your list ready and order online when possible. If you must go to a grocery store shop when there are less people, either early in the morning or late at night. Upon entry disinfect your hands and the cart/basket. Follow the distancing guidelines in the store and use self-check out if it’s available. Wash or sanitize hands when you leave.

Eating Out

Avoid gathering in public places – choose establishments that facilitate physical distancing, offer take out/delivery services, or that have a drive through. Stay 2 meters away from other people, sanitize your hands before eating, and always use utensils. Do not share food with others.

Some Final Tips

Get outside, (virtually) check in with family and friends, avoid crowds, and wash your hands often!
