For many professionals, industry involvement begins with a simple introduction. For others, it grows into something much more meaningful: a chance to build relationships, give back, and help strengthen the community around them. That has been the case for Jani-King’s own Robert McNamara Regional Owner of Jani-King Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island. His involvement with the Building Owners and Managers Association New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island (BOMA NB/PEI) has grown over the years through networking, volunteering, committee work, and leadership.
His connection to BOMA started naturally. He had always been aware of the organization, but it was the people he met along the way who made the experience stand out. Through meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities, he built friendships and professional relationships that made him want to become more involved. Over time, that involvement grew. He joined committees, helped support events, and became part of the Board in 2021. Last year, he stepped into the role of Vice President of BOMA NB/PEI, where he helped facilitate committees, support membership, contribute to advocacy efforts, and take on a more active executive role. For him, stepping into this new position felt like the right next step.
Networking has always been an important part of building trust and respect within the industry. By staying active, getting involved, and contributing where he could, Robert was able to grow as a leader while also giving back to an organization that had provided him with valuable connections and opportunities. He sees this role as more than just a title. It is an opportunity to support a strong group of people who are working together for a common purpose. BOMA brings together individuals from across the industry who share ideas, create opportunities, and work to strengthen the communities they serve.
Robert’s involvement with BOMA also connects closely to the work he does through Jani-King. With experience cleaning a wide range of commercial spaces, Jani-King teams understand what property managers, tenants, and visitors expect from a cleaning program. That is consistency, clear communication, attention to detail, and reliable service that supports a clean, safe, and professional environment. That practical understanding helps strengthen the connection between Jani-King’s work and the broader property management community.
One of the things Robert enjoys most is the people. Through BOMA, he has gained friends, connections, and a network of professionals who care about the industry and the work they do. That sense of community has made his involvement both valuable and rewarding. His previous experience has also helped prepare him for this leadership role. Understanding governance, committee structure, membership, advocacy, and the background of the organization has allowed him to contribute in a meaningful way. His experience gives him the ability to support the organization’s goals while helping guide its continued growth.
Looking ahead, Robert hopes to leave a lasting impact. Whether through growing membership, sharing knowledge, supporting strong governance, or helping build future leaders, his goal is to leave the organization stronger than it was before. For him, getting involved in BOMA NB/PEI has come full circle. What began as networking and volunteering has become an opportunity to lead and give back to an industry community that has given him so much.
